how the bio-based material studies started….

To think I never would have painted if my legs had been just a little longer!”

Banana peel + Seaweed = Bioplastic

Material crafted from banana peels carefully collected by my co-working mates, cotton batting leftovers from upholstery workshops and seaweed in the form of alginate.

To the touch it feels like a silicon material, amazingly soft and foldable, and distressingly similar to a skin.

This bio-composite can be hand or machine sewn, glued, laser cut and treated either with plant-based wood wax or with lanolin (wool wax) to make it water repellent.

Colors of México

This workshop offers participants the opportunity to learn traditional Mexican dyeing of natural fibers with grana cochinilla, achiote and other natural elements. We will practice how to prepare the textiles before dyeing, and how to treat them afterwards.
